Recently-published RFC 5837 describes additions to ICMP messages that would allow you to gather more information (including interface ifIndex, IP address and name). Two obvious applications are enhanced traceroute and path MTU discovery where the new ICMP extensions could indicate which interface is the MTU bottleneck.
The RFC authors come from BT, Juniper and Cisco, so there’s a non-zero chance it will actually get implemented where it’s most needed.
Dutch designer Mieke Meijer and design firm Vij5 created wood made from compressed newspaper.
Every day, piles of newspapers are discarded and recycled into new paper. Mieke Meijer has come up with a solution to use this surplus of apper into a renewed material. When a NewspaperWood log is cut, the layters of paper appear like lines of a wood grain or tyhe rings of a tree and therefore resembles the asethetic of real wood. The material can be cutr, milled and sanded and generally treated like any other type of wood.
